Lighthouse
Medium
Digital painting
Commissioned by Daniel, who wished to portray a moment of liberation from fear through two maritime symbols: the lighthouse and the ship’s figurehead of a mermaid. As we talked, I learned that his revelations had taken place not by the sea, but in an observatory in the middle of the desert — a poetic contrast that deeply reshaped the work’s interpretation.
The desert, bathed in bluish light, becomes a false ocean: the dunes mimic once-frightening waves, now calm. In the distance, a dune’s shadow forms a face — perhaps an old fear, now at peace. A single cloud crashes against the sand like a wave breaking on a cliff. The storm approaches, yet the body remains intact, pierced by light. No longer adrift, the guiding beam doesn't come from the outside — it rises from within.
Inspired by his story, Lighthouse embodies a symbolic crossing between confinement and inner freedom: the moment when anxiety turns into direction and strength. Even surrounded by sand and boundaries, something within has already found the sea.
